Shri Kantibhai has been honoured by Gujarat Cultural Forum, Ahmedabad, for his consistent services for the promotion of Indian handicrafts over the years, and was presented UDYOG RATNA AWARD for the year 1993 by the then Finance Minister of Gujarat State, Hon’ble Shri Chhabildas Mehta, on 05.01.1994

THE BEGINNING ….

Shri Kantibhai Kapasi, the founder of Kapasi Group, began his career in 1964 with Khadi Bhandar, Near Income-Tax Circle, Ahmedabad. While continuing his service, he used to supply artistic handicrafts to their employers and earn up to Rs.5000/- per month. Suddenly, one fine morning in 1973, opportunity knocked his doors by way of an advertisement in newspapers shown to him by his colleague. Content of the advertisement inspired Shri Kantibhai and without a second thought, grabbed it. Result he got the first genuine business opportunity for exporting Rs.2 lakhs worth of embroidered textiles to a South American client. He had supplied these goods to the client under the firm name – Bharat Kala Kendra.

This was the much needed fillip to Shri Kantibhai to put his dreams into shape. Realising the great potentiality, he had decided to take a chance of opening a small exclusive showroom of Indian artistic handicrafts in Ahmedabad. Thus, KAPASI HANDICRAFTS EMPORIUM was born on 18th February 1973. The showroom was inaugurated and thrown open to the customers at the hands of the then Mayor of Ahmedabad.
